From
Plaryskp Boxers, to Mojave Crest Boxers; over 50 Years of Loving
our breed.
The first boxer
came in to the Playter family in 1955. Daddy, Dick Playter,
brought home our first boxer puppy, Rocky, as a birthday gift for
my sister Kathy.
When it was
time for Rocky’s ear crop, he went to Dr Macuda, the “ear crop”
doc in Arizona at the time, while in the doctors office, daddy met
another boxer enthusiast, and she said “come to a show”. We took
Rocky to his first puppy match and he won a first place ribbon,
well, that was it! The Playter Family was off into a life long
love of showing boxers the Kennel name Plaryskp Boxers was born.
For the next 15 years our family went off to dog shows practically
every weekend showing our dogs and enjoying the hobby of the dog
show world. Richard & Yvonne joined the Sahuaro State Kennel Club
and were also founding members of the Arizona Boxer Club. A few
months after Rocky came into our lives, we got our second boxer
from a breeder in another state, her name was Bronsbarks Peaches &
Cream, Peachie was our foundation bitch and produced many
beautiful boxers under the banner of Plaryskp Boxers.
In 1957 The
Playter Family moved back to California taking our now two Boxers
and our love of showing dogs, the family hobby with us. Mom & Dad
met Bea & George Stacy of Cheorkee Oaks Boxers and eventually
joined the Boxer Club of Southern California. In 1959 Richard &
Yvonne Playter and 18 other members of the Boxer Club of Southern
California founded the Boxer Club of San Fernando Valley.
My childhood
and teen years are filled with wonderful memories of showing and
loving our dogs, having puppies, going to dog shows, and having
many wonderful friends associated with our family hobby.
As the three
Playter girls approached the teen years our family hobby was no
longer the center of our lives, but we have always had a boxer in
our lives. As I went out on my own as a young adult most of those
years were busy with “young adult” things. In 1988, I moved to
the High Desert of the Antelope Valley and got another Boxer,
“Plaryskp’s Sir Lancelot”, we was a pet quality boxer and I loved
him dearly. When he was only five years old he collapsed in the
yard, I rushed him to the vet, his heart had stopped, they brought
him back briefly, but he did not make it. It was then that I
learned about Cardiomyopathy. I was so sad about losing my Lancey
Boy that I went out in search of another Boxer companion. I found
a lovely flashy fawn boy and named him “Playryskp’s Cheyenne
Blaze. He was a pet quality boxer because I never thought I would
get back into the showing hobby, but in my search for him I met
several show enthusiasts and they said “Come to a show” So I did
just that, my first show back was the Orange Coast Boxer Club
specialty. Well, it was like I never left. Soon after that I
bought a young bitch out of a Jet Breaker son, Her name was
“Miller’s Sweet Mojave Rose” the foundation of Mojave Crest
Boxers.
It is now 2007,
Mojave Crest Boxers has just finished it’s 6th
homebred champion, “Mojave Crest’s Eye Candy”. We’ll see where we
go from here!
